This year in lieu of a Mothers Day card, I’ve asked my husband to start for me a new tradition. Now don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE getting a sweet card each year telling me just how wonderful and how loved I am!::wink, wink:: And all of the Hallmark words are meaningful to me, but I love this new tradition even more and I’ll have all of my Mother’s Day love and memories bound together as a keepsake for life.
Starting this year my husband and our three little ones are going to create a Mother’s Day journal. When I first ran this idea by my husband he loved it (then he asked if this meant he had to buy the journal…) This is only my second Mother’s Day (third in which I’ve been honored – I was seven months pregnant 2 years ago on this day!) so we added a page for 2012 commemorating how I was celebrated as I anxiously awaited the arrival of our miracle baby. We also added a photo from 2013 with a photo of our daughter, Ava, from that day when she was 9 months old. This year 2014 will be even more meaningful as I have now become a mom X 3! Of course my 21 month old and newborn twins are too little to write any words on their own quite yet – but I imagine in the future years that they will be able to write a simple ‘I LOVE YOU’, followed by a sentence or 2 and eventually paragraphs of memories and love for me to cherish forever. And of course each year a picture of them from Mother’s Day – since after all they are the reason I get to celebrate this special day!
So now my husband (and kids) can save a few bucks each year (not to mention the time it can take to find the perfect card!) and I can have a simple journal that will be priceless and with me to hang on to for life!
