Delivery Packing 101

As my 2nd pregnancy is close to the end and I am progressively waddling at this point, I realize I need to pack my hospital bag before it’s too late. It has been 3 years since I had do this and I have learned from what I over packed or mistakenly didn’t pack the first time around. Being more experienced now, I know that being induced at 3 pm does not guarantee that the baby will come that night and having items to pass the time is necessary.Ashley 10 BW

My suggestions:

  • Nightgown- 2 pieces with buttons on the top for easy nursing
  • Lightweight bathrobe – Ideal to throw on for an extra layer or over the hospital gown
  • Slippers and/or socks for pacing the halls and your room
  • Nursing bras
  • Full coverage underwear
  • Toiletries- Travel sized items of the products you use every day help to lighten your bag
  • Nipple cream- If breastfeeding, I highly recommend having this product on hand
  • If you wear glasses/contacts, ensure to bring them
  • Hard candies or mints- To suck on during labor and especially since you won’t be eating once admitted
  • Things to do to pass the time-
    • Book
    • Magazines
    • Adult coloring books
    • Hobby items that don’t take up much space in your bag-such as knitting
    • Tablet/laptop- with Netflix of course
    • Deck of cards
  • At least 2 changes of comfortable clothing during stay and travel home (more if c-section). Yoga pants and t-shirts are in my bag
  • Gift for siblings- To help with attention all going to the new addition. Have a gift for the siblings. There are some great books out there about being a big sister or brother
  • Baby’s going home outfit- pack both newborn and 0-3 sizes to ensure you have something that fits
  • Photo accessories- Headband or hat for a photo op
  • Blanket or car seat cover- Depending on what time of year/climate delivering in
  • Nursing pillow
  • Phone & charger- For informing your family & friends of the new addition as well as capturing pictures
  • Baby book- Get a head start on filling out the pages of the new addition’s baby book.
  • Thank you notes- For gifts you may have gotten recently or get during your stay in the hospital
  • Remember to install the car seat

What else did you pack in your hospital bag?
