I’m always looking for a chance to get out of town with my family. This winter has been bitterly cold, leaving my two daughters and I inside most days. Getting away takes a lot of planning- getting time off work, packing, and money. With busy schedules, it’s hard to find more than just a weekend to get away. A few weeks ago, my family decided to escape this ‘polar vortex’ and head somewhere warm- Wilderness Resort! While Wisconsin Dells is less than an hour away, we were able to enjoy some quality family time while experiencing all there is to do at the Wilderness Resort.
When we first arrived at 11am, we were able to register for our rooms, received our wristbands and headed straight for a waterpark. Not only do they have an indoor waterpark, they have FOUR indoor waterparks- Klondike Kavern, Wild WaterDome, Wild West, and Cubby’s Cove. With a 4-year-old and an 18-month-old, you can imagine we spent most of our time in the water. Between the slides, play areas, and wave pool; we were all prunes by the end of the day! Having a daughter with special needs, one of our big concerns is her having a good time. On select slides, Charlotte was able to sit on a lap so she didn’t have to miss out on the fun! By the end of the day, both girls were exhausted and slept all night!
The next morning, while we wanted to stay in and enjoy our amazing room, we headed back to the water and explored the other waterparks. After lunch, we dried off and grabbed our Wild Fun Pass. Being America’s largest waterpark resort, it’s no surprise we weren’t able to do everything! Besides the water activities, Wilderness Resort offers the Northern Light Sky Ropes Course, Wild West Indoor Bumper Boats, Wildwoods Go-karts (opening this summer), 3 mega Arcades, Timberland Play Park and much more! In February, OK Corral Lazer Tag Arena and Marshal Training Lazer Maze opened. With all these activities, you probably have dollar signs going through your head. Honestly, with an affordable Wild Fun Pass, you can experience all of these activities without breaking the bank and everyone will have a great time!
Think this sounds like a place only kids would enjoy? Adults can enjoy Margarita’s Swim-up Bar (opening May 2014) or jump on the shuttle and head to the Sundara Inn & Spa!
You don’t have to go far to find food. With multiple quick service and sit down dinning options, you’ll be able to find something that everyone will enjoy! My favorite was Pistol Pete’s Beans and Ice Cream- because who doesn’t love eating ice cream for lunch?
While we were able to getaway during the winter, summers at Wilderness Resort are just as fun with their FOUR outdoor waterparks and multiple outdoor activities! Combined, this property offers four indoor and four outdoor waterparks that total nearly 500,000 square feet- that’s over 12 football fields!
With your family’s busy schedule, you might have thought it was near impossible to have a great vacation without traveling over 1,000 miles away and spending all that hard-earned money! Let me just say, Wilderness Resort was a fun and relaxing getaway for my family and we will definitely be returning!
Be sure to check out all the fun activities that are happening at Wilderness Resort over Easter weekend!
