Members of Madison Momshine (the health & fitness branch of the Madison Moms Blog) had a blast at our recent Holiday Social! We were celebrating the end of the first round of the Healthy Habits Club, a local initiative that encourages moms to work on a healthy habit of their choice. (See the end of this post for details.)
Look at this amazing group of women!
The night included appetizers, desserts, and drinks at festive HotelRED, an inspiring talk from Kimberly Zahasky, R.N., aka the Professional Optimist, and some fun giveaways.
(Bacon-wrapped chorizo dates = INSANE.)
We were so honored to have Kimberly, co-owner of Blue River Chiropractic, come in to speak to us about the importance of loving ourselves for who we are. She talked about monitoring self talk, recognizing the strengths behind perceived weaknesses, and practicing whole-hearted living.
Kimberly is such a gifted speaker – her ability to be vulnerable with an audience and to connect with them on a personal level is incredible. In person, she is warm, open, and clearly deeply passionate about her work.
We were so lucky to get the opportunity to learn from her!
Party attendees took home prizes and special coupons from:
Fit Body Boot Camp
Kneaded Relief Spa & Wellness
Dragonfly Hot Yoga
Inner Fire Yoga
Senegence – LipSense
The Barre Code
Special thanks to our gold level sponsor, Fit Body Boot Camp. If you’re not familiar, FBBC (located on Odana Rd) offers fast, effective 30-minute workouts at 10 different times per day. Something that makes them really stand out is that they also offer 1 on 1 nutrition & lifestyle consultations and Goal Setting Sessions as part of their memberships. (Anyone who has tried to change their body knows that exercise is only one small piece of the puzzle!)
If you haven’t tried Fit Body Boot Camp yet, they are offering an incredible deal just for Madison Moms Blog followers who mention Momshine…
At the party, we also recognized the WINNING team from the fall session of the Healthy Habits Club:
Congratulations Team StrongHERS, with coaches Regina Thompson and Kyla Charles!
This group of women not only did a stellar job keeping up with their habits, but they were also highly active on our private Facebook group, sharing recipes and fitness photos to help motivate others. Thanks for the inspiration, ladies!
Other Healthy Habits Club teams and coaches included:
- Team Building a Better You with Coach Becky Binsfield
- Team Runner Moms with Coach Danelle Robinette
- Team Goal Getter Squad with Coach Erica Zick

On behalf of everyone in the Healthy Habits Club: THANK YOU!
So…What is this Healthy Habits Club All About?
The Healthy Habits Club helps local moms find balance in the areas of nutrition, fitness, and self care.
Participants choose their own habits to work on (one at a time!) and are divided into teams across the city, based on location and habit choice. Each group is assigned a dedicated Momshine Coach, who encourages and supports the team through a private Facebook group and/or over email, providing accountability and guidance.
Participants can choose any habit, but it must be easily trackable. For example, you might want to start going for walks 3x a week. Or maybe you want to eat a vegetable at least once a day. Maybe you’d like to make it to the gym 2x a week, or do something active as a family once a week. The right habit choice is anything you can mark “yes” or “no” on for a given day or week.
Now for the fun part: HHC members earn points based on how successful they are with their habits. The teams are in friendly competition with each other, vying for the highest team average each month as well as the top overall score.
Participants also have other ways to earn points, on top of good habit keeping—things like trying out new healthy recipes and fitness classes, or getting together with friends to do something active.
When Does the Next Round Start?
If you missed out on the last round of the Healthy Habits Club: great news! We will be running two 3-month sessions per year, with the next round starting in March of 2017.
Who Can Join?
All local moms are encouraged to join the club!
