The idea that children need a community to surround them and nurture them has been around since the dark ages. Though the needs that a community fulfills have changed from communal hunting and gathering to play groups and preschools, the idea still holds true – children have a greater chance at success when they have a village.
While lots of us have access to a wide range of resources – friends, family, extracurricular activities, quality toys and good schools, there are many in our area who do not. Our upcoming Luau is funding a donation of toys and learning materials to the 4-C Resources on the Road Program and Waunakee Neighborhood Connection valued at over $10,000 to help make the village a little stronger for some families.
These toys can help children cultivate a positive view of learning, spark an interest in a new subject, approach a difficult skill they’ve been working on in a new way, feel a sense of pride and responsibility in using quality materials, start a conversation with a caregiver and so much more.
So wear your best Hawaiian shirt, bring the kids and come on over!
